The Bible speaks of various gifts bestowed upon the Church for the upbuilding of the body of Christ. One list of such gifts is found in
Ephesians 4:11-13:
"And he gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ."
Therefore, the five gifts mentioned are:
1. Apostles: Those sent with a special commission, often considered foundational in establishing the church.
2. Prophets: Those who speak God's word, often to encourage, edify, and exhort.
3. Evangelists: Those gifted at sharing the Gospel message with unbelievers and leading them to Christ.
4. Pastors: Those who shepherd, care for, and guide a local church.
5. Teachers: Those who clearly explain and apply God's Word.
It is important to note that the Bible also mentions other spiritual gifts such as tongues, interpretation of tongues, miracles, healing, discernment, and administration. These gifts from the Holy Spirit are all given to equip and empower believers for service and to build up the Body of Christ.
