In the Catholic Church, there are typically
three Scripture readings at Sunday Mass:
1. First Reading: Usually taken from the Old Testament, but during the Easter season, it is taken from the Acts of the Apostles.
2. Second Reading: Taken from one of the New Testament letters (Epistles).
3. Gospel Reading: Taken from one of the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John).
There is also a Responsorial Psalm sung or recited after the first reading. This Psalm is a direct response to the Word of God in the first reading.
