The Bible contains accounts of numerous murders. Here are some of the most prominent murderers and their victims:
* Cain: Murdered his brother Abel out of jealousy. (Genesis 4:1-16)
* Lamech (a descendant of Cain): Murdered a young man who had wounded him. (Genesis 4:23-24)
* Simeon and Levi (sons of Jacob): Killed all the men of Shechem in revenge for the rape of their sister Dinah. (Genesis 34)
* Abimelech (son of Gideon): Hired assassins to kill his 70 half-brothers, except for Jotham who escaped. (Judges 9:1-6)
* Samson: Killed many Philistines, including a mass killing when he pulled down the pillars of a temple. (Judges 16)
* David: While not directly killing Uriah the Hittite with his own hands, David orchestrated Uriah's death by placing him in a position where he would be killed in battle, to cover up his adultery with Bathsheba. (2 Samuel 11)
* Joab (David's General): Murdered Abner (2 Samuel 3:27) and Absalom (2 Samuel 18:14-15).
* Jehu (King of Israel): Massacred the house of Ahab and the priests of Baal. (2 Kings 9-10)
* Athaliah (Queen of Judah): Murdered all the royal heirs except for Joash, who was hidden away. (2 Kings 11)
* Herod the Great: Ordered the Massacre of the Innocents in an attempt to kill the infant Jesus. (Matthew 2:16-18)
* Herod Antipas: Ordered the beheading of John the Baptist. (Matthew 14:1-12)
* The crowd in Jerusalem: While not a single individual, the crowd played a role in the crucifixion of Jesus.
