God made several promises to Joshua, primarily found in the Book of Joshua, chapter 1. Here are the key promises:
* Possession of the Promised Land: God promised to give Joshua and the Israelites all the land that he had promised to Moses, "Every place where you set your foot will be yours: Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea." (Joshua 1:3-4)
* God's Unfailing Presence and Support: God assured Joshua that He would be with him just as He had been with Moses, "As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you." (Joshua 1:5)
* Success and Prosperity: God promised Joshua success in all his endeavors, contingent on his obedience to God's law, "This Book of the Law must not depart from your mouth; you must recite it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will make your way successful, and then you will be prosperous." (Joshua 1:8)
* Strength and Courage: God repeatedly encouraged Joshua to be strong and courageous, because of the difficult task ahead of him, "Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them." (Joshua 1:6) and "Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9)
These promises were conditional, depending on Joshua's and the Israelites' faithfulness to God's commands.
